Having scored 190 in the first Test of Indiaโ€™s Tour of Sri Lanka, Shikhar Dhawan wasnโ€™t about to let up. He continued his fine form with the bat to bring up his 6th century in Test cricket at Pallekele, Sri Lanka.

Arriving at his century off 107 balls, this was Dhawanโ€™s second century of the series against Sri Lanka. He would go on to add 119 more runs to the bringing his tally to 119 off 123 balls.

Dhawan looked at ease dealing with the pacers, driving the ball through the covers in a great show of timing and power. KL Rahul got settled in as well and India raced off to a quick start.

Even the bouncy wicket and the arrival of the spinners was not enough to deter them as the pair brought up their 50-partnership in the 10th over.

Manning the other end of the crease, KL Rahul showed his dependability once more, bringing up a stunning seventh successive half-century in Test cricket. He narrowly missed out on a century of his own, scoring 135 runs with 8 boundaries.

The powerful duo made a statement when they bettered the previous highest opening stand of 173 runs against Sri Lanka in away Tests with their 188-run partnership off 237 balls.

While Indiaโ€™s powerful middle order failed to perform, the heroic stand between the two batsmen was enough to get India off to a promising start of 329/6 on Day 1. Cheeky comments notwithstanding, this was one powerful partnership.
