Rakesh Pulapati, 33, works as a software engineer in Mumbai. While pursuing his engineering in college, Rakesh tormented his juniors by knocking over their stumps in three consecutive deliveries. The hat-trick still remains his most cherished moment while playing sports. He plays football once a week but finds time to play table-tennis regularly in his office.
Why is it your favourite sport? And how did you fall in love with it?
I play a variety of sports but none of them stand out. But I do remember how it all began. I was in the second standard and my father took me for admission in a new school. He left me near the playground to do some paperwork while I just went in and started playing football with other kids and that is how I got into sport.
What was the most difficult part about playing football?
Currently, my game isn’t great. I am trying to improve that every time I get an opportunity. I want to match the level of football my team plays.
How did you overcome these difficulties?
My colleagues ensure that we take some time off and play. I feel if I was alone, I wouldn’t have made that much of an effort to come in and play, so I guess I am lucky to have such people around me.
What message do you have for others to encourage them to play your favorite sport?
As I mentioned, you need to find like-minded people to play sports regularly. Once you have that company around you, there will be opportunities to go out and play.
