Trayvon Bromell - The next big athlete?

For a guy who has broken both his knees, forearm and hips before turning 16, Trayvon Bromell is keen on breaking a few more things - mostly in the world of running. At 19, he became the fastest teenager in the world when he ran the 100m in an astonishing 9.84 seconds at the USA trials.

This God-fearing youngster will be participating in the IAAF World Championships at Beijing where he will compete with the likes of Usain Bolt and company. We give you a few interesting bits on Bromell on what makes him such an exciting prospect to watch out for in future:

His mother Shri is a former high school sprinter while his father played in American football in the Canadian league. Genetically speaking, Trayvon is just built for this sport! All of 5 feet 9 inches, he is definitely shorter than his peers and current top-level sprinters, but that hasn’t stopped him from speeding his way into the record books. “Height don’t mean nothing” is what Bromell has to say about that!

Trayvon has notched up four sub 10-second times so far and is the only teenager to ever break that barrier. He is faster than current world record holder Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay, Justin Gatlin, Yohan Blake and Asafa Powell were at the same age. The celebrated names mentioned here never broke the 10 second barrier so young. Sprinters are known to peak in their 20s and the world is looking at him with bated breath as the next big athlete for the foreseeable future. He also raced against Gay at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in June this year with the more experienced campaigner just pipping him at the finish line.

After his exploits, he became the first teenager to qualify for the IAAF World Championships. He has successful broken into the USA team and he is pretty confident of standing his ground against the likes of the towering Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay and others. A medal in Beijing would certainly announce to the world his astounding abilities and a man to watch out for in Rio 2016!
