Shantanu Ghosh, 37, works as a media professional in GroupM and roots for Rafael Nadal and the Indian cricket team. He tries to play at least 3-4 times a week and considers a club level tennis tournament win at age of 34, just two years after picking up the game, as his biggest achievement.
What is your favourite sport? How did you fall in love with it?
Tennis, then football. Tennis I love because I play the sport myself and also follow it quite a bit. I feel tennis provides just the right form of exercise that a person needs. At first, I thought it was a game of power and strength but then I realized it’s a game of control and there are a lot of techniques which are involved.
What are the biggest challenges that you faced?
My travel schedule is pretty bad so I don’t get time to play. But thankfully, places like this (Kunal Sports Arena) are coming up. It’s very near to our office, so we can make an ad-hoc plan to play without much planning.
How are you overcoming these challenges?
It’s so hard to find a good court in Mumbai, so whatever opportunities we get, we try not to miss out on.
Any message for sports lovers who find it tough to play?
You have to make time, whether it’s in the morning or evening. Basically, you have to work around it. Don’t just make up excuses for yourself. If you have the passion, then you can definitely kind of do something.
