Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski kept their dreams of winning back-to-back grand slams alive on Thursday by seeing off the Croatian pairing of Nikola Mektić and Ana Konjuh 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in just over an hour.
@rohanbopanna congrats on reaching Wimbledon quarters. 2nd back to back slam beckons— Rakesh Sharma (@rakesh1411A) July 12, 2017
The Roland Garros champions, seeded 10thin the tournament, didn’t have much to worry about, and while they just about managed to snatch the first set via an edgy tiebreak, they breezed through in the second set, dropping only two games in the process.
Bopanna, who is well known for his huge serves, used them to good advantage as the Indo-Canadian pair notched up nine aces in the match and held all their serves.
They broke twice in the second set, and the result was never really a doubt. The pair showed good attacking flair as demonstrated by their 10 winners in the match.
That's it 😍
Good luck for the next game 😎— Suresh (@ImSSuresh) July 12, 2017
The reward is a berth in the quarterfinals of the coveted event, and there they will face the unseeded Finnish-British pairing of Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson.
